Local networkers join charity to speed network

Category: Charity

Release Date: 30/05/2017

Members of Southend's ebn (Effective Business Network) tried their hand at speed networking this month when Career Ready, in partnership with The Hive and Chase High School, organised an event to help students prepare for the world of work.

Career Ready is a UK-wide charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people. The charity gives students from lower income families the confidence, skills and networks to achieve their potential. Through volunteering for Career Ready, employers get a rewarding opportunity to develop their own presenting, coaching and management skills, and find the next generation of talented employees.

Sarah Morton, of Career Ready, said: "I was delighted that my fellow ebn networkers volunteered their time to help with our latest event.

"The Group Members are from very different sectors, which is ideal to give the students a real taste of networking.

"Students in years 9 and 10 visited The Hive in Southend to participate in a range of activities to help them develop their understanding of the local economy and the skills needed to succeed.

"The students enjoyed speed networking with local entrepreneurs and business volunteers; they found out about the support available to young entrepreneurs, as well as learning about how to manage their finances effectively.

"The event was such a success that we are now arranging more events of this type. If anyone would like to volunteer please contact me at sarah.morton@careerready.org.uk."

Managing Director of ebn Glenys Chatterley said: "ebn encourages each of our networking groups to support a local charity; the Members represent businesses based in the local community, so they want to support that community.

"Southend ebn has done exceptionally well, and I really enjoyed joining them and supporting their chosen charity at this event. I am sure that the Members will continue supporting the charity every time they meet with fellow business representatives."

Southend ebn meets every other Tuesday at The Arlington in Leigh-on-Sea. For more information, please visit http://www.ebn.uk.com/groups/southend.
